The first year of this original show idea was launched just in time for the Spring Wine Festival. On May 5th & 12th, people came to New Moon Gallery to create their own works of art using 100% Pinot Noir wine as their medium. Artist, gallery owner, and Okanagan Arts Awards Teacher of the Year Nominee, Linda Lovisa, guided people through the experience, suitable for all skill levels and a perfect way to wrap-up a wine tour. The cost for this event was free - donations were accepted to fund free children's arts programming. |

![]() "Bright Future" May 11 to 25, 2012 New Moon Gallery is proud to host an exhibition of work from EthiopiArt. About EthiopiArt Inspired by the entrepreneurial potential in Ethiopia after a student volunteer expedition to Africa, EthiopiArt was born from a passionate desire to promote the youth of Ethiopia, to promote the partnership between Okanagan College and Canadian Humanitarian, and to promote Social Business by showcasing artwork created by orphans who are sponsored by Canadian Humanitarian, an international relief organization whose mandate since 2003 is to break the cycle of poverty for the most vulnerable children and youth in and around the capital of Ethiopia. The launch of EthiopiArt began with only two original paintings created by students of an after-school community program that offers a variety of classes and services to students, their guardians, and families. The Social Business model, formed in partnership with Canadian Humanitarian was created for the purpose of generating a steady profit stream that contributes to the sustainability of after-school programs sponsored by Canadian Humanitarian. These community centres will be able to generate revenue from one of their own programs instead of relying on donations. Social Business is a new type of industry, not yet recognized in Canada. The business is developed to operate as a typical small business does, keeping costs low, and maximizing profits. On the other hand, EthiopiArt is founded on the belief in sharing the wealth, is based on a pay-it-forward philosophy, and demonstrates the Art of Social Business by shouldering all operating costs. In other words, only the cost-of-goods-sold investment is reimbursed by Canadian Humanitarian – the net profit is directed back to the after school centres. EthiopiArt works within the structure of Canadian Humanitarian so the artwork is purchased directly from the community art programs through volunteers who visit the after-school centres four times a year, and deliver the paintings to Canada. The paintings are digitally recorded, prepared, exhibited, and sold as original works, limited editions, greeting cards, and bookmarks. About The Art & The Show! The students who attend the after-school classes recently produced 5 paintings that were delivered to Canada by volunteers who participated in the March 2012 expedition. These works will include a short bio about each artist along with an interesting fact about Ethiopia. By purchasing an exclusive EthiopiArt product, you have a unique opportunity to invest in the young entrepreneurs of Ethiopia. Together we can all paint a brighter future!
